Your Treatment

If you are considering facial rejuvenation treatment with Juvéderm™, the first step is to explore whether it is right for you. Ultimately, reviewing your options with Dr. Tomi is the only way to determine if you could benefit from Juvéderm™. But, if you know friends or family members who have had treatment, discussing their experiences could be a good start.

When having your consultation with Dr. Tomi, it's important to be very specific about your expectations and desired results. You should discuss the aspects of your appearance that bother you and what you would like to achieve.

This facial filler treatment is so simple that you can arrange to be treated on the way home from work or even while the kids are at soccer practice - and then go on with the rest of your day.

Before your appointment: It is recommended that you avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), for at least a week prior to treatment. This will reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

When you arrive: If this is your first visit, Dr. Tomi will ask about your medical history, including any allergies you may have or medications you may be taking, and will tell you more about your Juvéderm™ treatment. Unlike animal-derived collagen filler injections, Juvéderm™ does not require an allergy test.

Determining your treatment needs: Dr. Tomi will examine your skin to assess the depth of wrinkles and folds in order to determine your treatment. They may even take pre-treatment photographs so you can see the difference after treatment.

During Treatment

Before your facial rejuvenation procedure, Dr. Tomi may use topical or injectable anesthesia to numb the treatment area first. However, new Juvéderm™ XC (extra comfort) contains lidocaine - a localized pain reliever so a separate anesthetic is unnecessary.

Dr. Tomi will inject Juvéderm™ under your skin with a fine needle to restore volume and smooth away fine lines, wrinkles and folds. Following injection, the treated areas may be gently massaged. The facial filler procedure is quick and easy, generally taking only 15-60 minutes (depending on areas treated).

Post Treatment

One of the many benefits of Juvéderm™ is that it achieves beautiful skin rejuvenation with minimal downtime.

For the first 24 hours following treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in order to help minimize temporary injection-related reactions such as redness, itching at the treatment site, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps. Studies have shown that these reactions are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own in 7 days or less. If you experience swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period. Dr. Tomi will tell you when make-up may be applied after your wrinkle treatments.

Seeing Results

After a Juvéderm™ treatment, you should see an immediate improvement. Results may vary from one person to another and correction is temporary. Usually a single treatment can give you the look you want, but supplemental "touch-up" treatments may be required to maintain optimal results. Remember that Juvéderm™ is the only hyaluronic acid (HA) facial filler clinically proven to last up to one year.
