Dr. Zohair Tomi, MD, BCh, FRCPC
Principal Investigator

Dr. Zohair Tomi MD, FRCPC is chief consultant dermatologist at Alpha Dermatology Centre. He completed his training at the University of Ottawa, and has been practicing dermatology since 2002.

He is an active member in the medical community, holding positions that include current board membership of The Canadian Dermatology Foundation, and membership with The Canadian Dermatology Association, The Canadian Medical Association, and Fellow of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

He possesses extensive experience in dermatology, dermatological surgery, advanced application of cosmetic injectables, and laser applications. He is an expert in all aspects of medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology.

Dr. Tomi offers the latest cutting edge technology in aesthetic lasers, facial rejuvenation, a broad range of cosmetic treatments, such as Botox, Juvederm, Voluma, and other fillers, and anti-aging management.

Dr. Tomi holds special interests in cosmetic, laser surgery, and anti-aging medicine, and has attended numerous seminars and programs perfecting his technique. Dr. Tomi believes that performing such treatments in a minimal invasive manner provides outstanding results, while providing high-value, cost effective, and safer outcomes, especially for the busy patient who has minimal downtime to spare.

Fractional lasers and resurfacing for the treatment of lines, wrinkles, texture and scars, add to the extensive repertoire of services offered by Dr. Tomi. The wide variety of laser systems ensures optimal therapy for your cosmetic concerns.

Dr. Robert J. Williams, MD, CCFP, MPH
Sub-Investigator

Dr. Williams was born and currently resides in St. John’s. He completed medical school, internship and M.D. from Dalhousie University, N.S. in 1969.

From 1969-1979 he practiced medicine in Newfoundland’s College Hospital System and for eight years, and was the Senior Medical Officer. During this period he received, by examination, his Certification in Family Medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada 1974.

In 1979 he joined the Dept. of Health, working in a number of positions including Deputy Minister of Health from 1989 – 1998. While at the Dept. of Health he spent an academic year at Harvard School of Public Health, receiving a Masters of Public Health Degree in 1982.

From 1998 until retiring in 2006, he worked as Vice President of Medical Services at the Health Care Corporation of St. John’s and its successor, Eastern Health. Throughout his years in administrative roles, he continued to work in Family Practice locums as well as Associate Professor of Community Health at Memorial University Medical School.

Dr. Williams has been active in the role of Sub Investigator with Alphaderm since March 2009, participating in research/clinical trials focusing on psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and other immunological diseases, in partnership with pharmaceutical companies, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), International Regulatory Board (IRB), and Health Canada.

Focusing on the provision of quality research trials into dermatological disease, Dr. Williams is committed to patient satisfaction and is honoured to be working in this clinical and research role with Alphaderm.

Kayla Hillier
Clinical Research Administrative Coordinator

A proactive and energetic assistant business manager committed to client satisfaction and continuous innovation, Kayla helps lead Alphaderm in this challenging and rewarding position.

Kayla is from Grand Bank, a small town on the Burin Peninsula. She graduated from the College of the North Atlantic (St. John’s) with a diploma in Medical Office Administration in April 2005, and has been working at Alphaderm since then.

Having gained invaluable experience in this dynamic role, combined with her knowledge of computer networks, and database management she now leads our team as the Clinical Research Administrative coordinator. Her active involvement with clinical trials as well as management of clinical, surgical, cosmetic, and investigational dermatology makes her an invaluable asset at Alphaderm.

Andrea Canning, RN
Dermatology & Medical Aesthetic Coordinator

Andrea directs the daily operation of the laser/cosmetic clinic, and assists Dr. Tomi in an active role in all forms of dermatological therapies in the clinical setting.

As a Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator, she is also a very active participant in research clinical trials covering many aspects of dermatology, with a primary focus in psoriasis.

Andrea is from Botwood, a small town in Central Newfoundland. She graduated from the General Hospital’s Registered Nurse Program in 1987, and has over twenty years of nursing experience with Eastern Health in critical care areas such as intensive care, coronary care, as well as the operating room, with extensive experience in plastic surgery.

Andrea has been working with Dr. Tomi and Alphaderm for five years in Clinical, Surgical, Cosmetic, and Investigational Dermatology and has gained invaluable experience in this dynamic leadership role. She has completed training programs in Aesthetic Procedures and Laser Technology by Clarion Medical Technologies, (Cambridge, Ontario). She is currently enrolled in the Allergan Clinical Consultants Program (ACC) by Allergan Canada, (Markham, Ontario).

Andrea’s commitment to patient satisfaction, continual innovation and improvement to health care outcomes, make her a valuable asset to the Alphaderm team.
